Information
Bathed in an almost Mediterranean climate the South Hams most Southerly town is located in an area of breathtaking, unspoilt natural beauty. With its picturesque harbour, dramatic coastline and wonderful surrounding countryside it is no wonder that Salcombe has been a popular holiday destination as long as can be remembered.

A Mecca for wildlife enthusiasts, birds flock in their thousands to the harbour. The estuary is a haven for a wide variety of fish, including many very rare species, and is frequently visited by basking sharks and dolphins. Like birds, folk with a passion for the life aquatic also flock here in their thousands and who could blame them? The opportunities for sailing, boating fishing and water-sports are virtually matchless anywhere else in the UK. Salcombe also boasts several excellent sailing schools offering tuition to the very highest standard.

The little town itself is vibrant labyrinth of narrow streets and steep alleyways, its charm equalled only by the variety of shops, fine restaurants and cafes from which to choose. You can stroll at your leisure whilst enjoying delicious, locally produced ice cream or chocolate, visit Island Street’s famous boatyards or catch a ferry to nearby East Portlemouth and North and South Sands for a day on the beach. In short Salcombe has everything you would expect from a British holiday by the sea – and maybe just a little bit more!

We met Nick from Cream Marine engineers and storage Salcombe at the London Boat Show 2015 on the Selva Marine stand. His personal yet professional approach made us feel immediately at ease. After a quick discussion, Nick had guided us to a product which suited us perfectly and surprisingly didn't cost the earth. Nick is a fair and well educated engineer who only wants people to enjoy the water. We will have to make the effort to come to Salcombe to see him again and enjoy a day on the water he feels so passionate about.

Its us again...Have you ever thought about offering a discount service with the businesses that are on your guide?? Last time we were here we used your harbour guide and pretty much most of the businesses on it, from Hotels to taxis etc. It would be even more of an incentive if there was some kind of discount however small it might be.
Just a thought.

One of the most beautiful sailing and fishing centres in the world, Salcombe Harbour offers a safe haven to visiting yachts. Apart from the sizeable local shellfishing fleet, there is no commercial traffic. A marvellous little place slightly off the main drag (in Church Street opposite the Regal). Billed as serving European cuisine, it's run by an Hungarian family - hurrah! There's a lot of predictable food in Kingsbridge, so Madeleine's really adds something new and delicious. Yacht Club
Salcombe Yacht Club
Salcombe is located at the southern tip of Devon. The large sheltered estuary is very popular with dinghy sailors and holiday makers. Salcombe is used by yachts as a base for cruising the south west coastline and as a point of departure for the Channel Islands and France. Salcombe Yacht Club organises regular dinghy racing, cadet sailing, cruiser races and rallies. Merlin Rocket Week (100 boats entered - the maximum allowed - with a waiting list in 2007) and SYC Regatta Week (290 boats in 2007) take place in July and August. A social programme offers activities throughout the year. The Club House offers a grandstand view of the harbour from its terrace. Showers are available for visiting yachtsmen. There is a well stocked bar and hot and cold food is offered at most lunchtimes and evenings. The Club House has rooms that can be booked for private functions and has a wireless internet connection. When contacting the Yacht Club by Phone, please remember that there are two numbers: The Office, 01548 842593 (open 0930 - 1415 hours for club administration) The Bar, 01548 842872 (For catering arrangements and changing facilities)

When Salcombe Yacht Club celebrated its Centenary in 1984, local historian Sonia Parkinson dipped into the clubs records and history to produce the historical story of the Club which was distributed to the membership. Now 13 years on, Nick Walker has delved into his archives and produced an electronic copy for all to enjoy! The story of Salcombe Yacht Club makes fasinating reading for anyone interested in sailing on the Salcombe Estuary and how sailing has evolved over the years. Since writing the history Sonia and her husband Brian have been elected as Honorary Members of the Salcombe Yacht Club
