Cowes Dry Sailing Centre is situated on the bank of the River Medina at East Cowes just ten minutes walk from mainland ferry connections. It has a dry sail facility for up to 35 ribs or small motor boats launching them from its slipway facility onto pontoon moorings that are less than ten minutes from the open sea. The Centre is owner operated and has a fully qualified marine engineer and marine electrician on site and offers a full service in both trades including planned maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs and new installations.

The Duke of York retains many of its original features with a nautical theme throughout, one of the few 'unspoilt' pubs still trading in the town. Recent improvements include enlarging the dining area and installing a disabled toilet and attractive sheltered patio area to the rear of the restaurant, popular with both drinkers and diners alike.
The Duke of York also offers en suite accommodation all year round with rooms consisting of singles, doubles, twins and family rooms, a ground floor room is also available to less agile visitors.

The Lifeboat stands proudly over East Cowes Marina, which is a huge favourite of visiting yachtsmen in the summer, but also a family-friendly home-from-home for locals too. In the summer, our large outside decking area offers one of the best riverside dining experiences on the Island.
For many visitors to the Isle of Wight, East Cowes will be their first port of call, since the Red Funnel car ferry docks here, delivering its passengers from Southampton straight into the town centre.
East Cowes is the home of Osborne House and was once a maritime industrial town and former home of British Hovercraft. One of the most arresting landmarks many people will see, as they approach from the ferry, is the vast Union Jack painted onto the shore side doors of the old hovercraft factory. Now, East Cowes is a small but busy town with a cluster of popular shops and a stunning marina development.

Originally Medina Sailcare was formed in early 2005 by Gerry Faram after the demise of the GBR '04/07 America's Cup challenge. They were situated in Thetis Wharf near the floating bridge/chain ferry until April 2012 when they moved to Cowes Yacht Haven and changed the name to Sailcare Company UK Limited.
Gerry had worked for North Sails UK since 1999, starting in Fareham building new sails then later in the service facility in Hamble doing sail repairs and servicing the regattas in Hamble, Cowes and the south coast. Gerry continued that relationship with North Sails at Medina Sailcare and the new company became a North Sails Certified Service Centre.
The new premises at Cowes Yacht Haven have made it easier for both customers and staff; with close proximity to the marina, boats and the centre of town. The new sail loft is twice the size of the old premises at Thetis Wharf.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought Osborne and its estate from Lady Isabella Blachford in 1845. In 1848 the old house was demolished and a new three-storey pavilion with flagtower and main and household wings was built. The 19th century estate eventually totalled over 800 hectares and included numerous cottages and lodges for estate workers and members of the household. Prince Albert's planting scheme was partially dictated by the already well-established late 18th century landscape that surrounded Osborne House. Other influences include his liking for poplars found at his family home of the Rosenau, and for the Italian fashion which he had seen at first hand of lining principal drives and walks with evergreens, such as myrtle and laurel. The walled kitchen-garden and adjoining pleasure grounds in front of the house remained as elements from the late 18th century landscape. The upper and lower terraces, with their ornamental parterres interspersed with statues representing the seasons, were constructed under the supervision of Prince Albert and Ludwig Gruner. The Swiss Cottage Garden laid out in 1853, with furnished cottage, was used by the children to grow and sell vegetables as a practical exercise in market gardening. The garden is following a restoration programme with the aim to present the park and garden landscape as close to the period before Queen Victoria's death as possible.

Visitors arriving in Cowes should not leave without making a visit to the Sir Max Aitken Museum in the famous pink building, The Prospect on Cowes High Street.
This magnificent 18th Century, Ratsey and Lapthorn sail makers loft, was acquired and restored by Sir Max Aitken in 1947. Today, with its traditional splendour, the building boasts Sir Maxs personal collection of historic and nautical artefacts.
John William Maxwell Aitken was born in Canada in 1910, he was the eldest son of Lord Beaverbrook, the owner of the Daily Express newspaper group. Sir Max was educated at Pembrooke college, Cambridge, where he joined the Auxiliary Air Force, which consisted of sparetime flyers who gave up their weekends and holidays to learn the art of flying different aircraft.
In 1939, Sir Max was flying with the famous 601 County of London Squadron, he fought in the Battle of Britain and was among the lucky few pilots who survived the war. His first mission was over Germany in 1939 and his last was as group Captain of the Banff Strike Wing, flying over Norway, in 1945. He was credited as having 16 victories, 9 probables and having damaged 15 enemy aircraft.
He was awarded the Distinguished Service order and the Distinguished Flying Cross and he was Knighted in the 1940s.

Cowes Solent Marine Services is situated on the bank of the River Medina at East Cowes just ten minutes walk from mainland ferry connections.
It has a dry sail facility for RIBS or small motor boats launching them from its slipway on their own trailers onto pontoon moorings that are less than ten minutes from the open sea. When your not using your boat it is kept on dry land so no need for the usual wear and tear of the salt water and weather elements. When you have finished with your boat it is lifted out washed off and engines flushed with fresh water and the craft is fully inspected.
We have added a large boat mover and forklift to the machinery at Cowes Solent Marine Services so we can now also offer (With limited spaces available) a complete dry sail offer for motor boats of up to 40ft. with under cover storage. in 2 x 9,000 square foot boat sheds, power and heating also supplied.

Marinas
There are a large number of visitors berths that may be booked in advance. There are two areas at either end of the marina designated for visiting boats - to the north, A and B pontoons now constitute the main visitor berthing zone and there are still a number of visiting berths in the southern basin. The bay layout of the pontoons means that during busy periods rafting is necessary, but nonetheless there is ample access to electricity and fresh water.
