Just a few minutes drive from Weymouth harbour, a visit to Westham's newly refurbished pub/restaurant is a must. The airy, stylish interior retains much of the building's Victorian character, originally designed by local architect George Rackstraw Crickmay, who once employed famous novelist Thomas Hardy as a draughtsman.
Serving restaurant quality food at pub prices and good value, tasty house wines, Chef Mark Roberts (awarded 2 AA Rosettes) is succeeding in his stated aim to create a quality, community local pub with a friendly atmosphere, where women feel happy to walk in unaccompanied.
The large interior is cleverly divided into different areas with leather sofas strategically placed in between tables creating a relaxing vibe, whilst flat screen televisions at one end showing old films and music playing at the other end, provide interest without being too intrusive. There is also a charming external courtyard.
The owners are creating a community spirit by providing varied activities every night of the week, currently:
Monday - Specialty food night serving freshly prepared dishes from the Gold Star hygiene rated kitchen; Tuesday - Pub quiz where it is possible to win up to £200; Wednesday - Live sport from Sky and Setanta; Thursday - Karoke Friday & Sat - Live entertainment following the tradition of this pub which, in the past, has played host to the Rolling Stones; Sunday - Specially designed Sunday lunch menu;
A warm welcome awaits you from Pat 'n' Pete and the 'crew' at the Black Dog here in Weymouth.
Established in 1621 and with a long attachment to things nautical (The HMS Portland have adopted us as thier 'port of call' when in harbour), the pub is a friendly, historic, locals, town centre pub offering a great drinks selection, (Including fine local cask ales and ciders), and great value home cooked meals.
With darts, pool, games, 'jukebox' (with great tunes playing), and large screen TV's available, a quiz Wednesday nights @ 9pm, and Karaoke and Live Music at the weekends this is a place that is always lively and always worth a visit - whether it's daytime or night time!!
We are situated next to Marks and Spencer's on St. Mary's Street and just across the Esplanade from the beach.
Hope to see you soon
