Visiting Lerwick
We are delighted to announce that our Shetland and Lerwick representatives will be visiting Shetland on the week commencing Monday 4th November to update the guides. We are looking forward to meeting the various business owners on these beautiful islands.

Visiting Lerwick and Shetland
After visiting Orkney we headed further North to Lerwick in the Shetland Islands. Once again we have added reviews to the businesses we visited. We hope they help future visitors when visiting. westrongly advise anyone who hasn't been here before to make the effort. Its completely different to anywhere else in the world.

We took some time off last year and visited the Shetland and Orkney Islands. We used Harbourguides as one of our cruising guides and found some really good information. All in all the guides were very helpful. As it seems popular with other visitors to this site, we too have lefy honest apraisals of businesses we visited through the guide.
We hope our comments and reviews enhance the experience for future visitors to these wonderful islands.

I have wanted to visit Lerwick for some time, can anyone give me some feedback to what its like ?

LHD Custom Clothing
LHD are a probably the most important business for the mariners, commercial or pleasure in these islands. The actual shop itself doesn't just cater for us mariners, it sells high quality clothing, fishing tackle and much more.

Q A Fish
Superb selection of fresh fish. we were self catering and this place was a godsend!

Anderson & Co
Such a delightful shop with a diversity of goods, from baby wear to knitting supplies, clothing, all under one roof. The staff were so helpful. Its a lot larger than it looks from the outside, so leave a little time to browse.

Fjara Cafe Bar
We had two meals here and both times were very enjoyable. Also both times were very busy, you could risk walking in but its a very popular place so I would advise booking first if you can. The staff handle the busyness with a smile and they wont leave you waiting long for service and food. Top place!!!!!!!!!!

Gurkha Kitchen
WE never eat Nepalese food before we go to this restaurant and now we love the Nepalese food. we eaten twice and both the times were good and tasty. we go on a weekend and had special menu, very good price for us. Thank you Ghurka Kitchen for very nice food and people

The New Harbour Cafe
Good cafe for excellent home cooked food and family run. No frills, just wholesome food and service with a smile.

LHD Shop
Godsend of a shop, plenty of quality outdoor branded clothing including safety wear. Nice range of stylish clothing and fishing equipment. Good all round shop!!

Sound Butchers
Definitely not your average butchers, it was a delight shopping at Sound Butchers. Obviously they sell top quality cuts of meat, but their pies and sauces etc. are also top draw. The shop is spotless and the staff (I think they were the owners) take pride in what they are doing. Great shop and also there's a great fish merchant next door!

Q A Fish
Fantastic fresh produce displayed beautifully in the shop. Got the boat stocked up for our voyage south.

Home Furnishing
If you enter this store there's every chance you will leave with at least one or two items, even if they weren't what you went in for. There's so much stock in here and such a variety. The premises are large but well laid out so its easy to find stuff. The prices are also very competitive. Good all round shop.

Bolts Car Hire
No fuss car hire without the worry of getting ripped off. Good honest company.

The Noost Bar
A new cool bar in Lerwick. We went on a Thursday and it was really vibrant with a mixed age group. The décor is clean and bright. It has a really nice vibe about it that's difficult to explain, but it kept us returning on our recent trip. Also a good selection of drinks, some we hadn't encountered before.

Gurkha Kitchen
What a find this place is and its very understated. It has plenty of seating area and we got straight in without a booking. We have eaten at Indian and Nepalis restaurant in the past, but we are no experts to the menus, so the help and advice from the waitress was very welcome. She helped with our choices and she chose very well. A very enjoyable evening and one we will repeat again soon.

The New Harbour Cafe
Nice homemade food at great value for money prices. Typical homemade food in comfortable surroundings. If you go in for the breakfast, only order the "Large" breakfast if you are very hungry, if not the small one is sufficient.

Sound Butchers
We were on our self catering holiday and visited Sound Butchers to stock up on our meat. Its probably the best butchers I have been to. Very friendly staff, the shop is incredibly well stocked with lots of locally produced beef and pork. They have some kind of curing process for treats such as jerkin etc. It really is an extremely high end butchers that you rarely come across. We were also after some fish, and there's a great fishmongers next door, what a result!! All in all great shop!!

TJ's Thai Restaurant
We ate here after seeing the beautiful photos on the advert. It was a fantastic find as me and my husband love Thai food and always look out for a Thai restaurant on our travels. TJ's didn't disappoint us! delicious Thai cuisine with the usual lovely Thai welcome. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. A must visit when in Shetland.

Home Furnishing
Well stocked shop for all types of "Home Furnishings" We even managed to get a few items that came in handy for the boat. Quite large premises and you can spend a good half hour or so perusing through all their goodies.

Bolts Car Hire
Great service and with a smile. Bolts Car Hire don't complicate things and we feel secure in the knowledge that we will not be overcharged or charged for imaginary damage (Which has happened to us from other car hire companies on our travels) Great to do business with them and we have no hesitation in recommending them to people.

The Noost Bar
Lovely bar with entertainment. We have been here twice already. Looking forward to the "Munchies" tonight.

Probably one of the best equipped body shops in Scotland. Every bit of state of the art equipment. The go to place for top workmanship.

LHD Marine Supplies
Lots of top quality outdoor clothing can be found in abundance here, as well as a good range of fishing equipment and other outdoor sports equipment. Large premises carrying lots of stock. A very popular shop amongst locals and visitors. Good value for money.

Aurora Jewellery - Lerwick
Lovely shop situated on commercial Street, Lerwick selling lots of high quality items, including custom made jewellery made on there premises in Orkney.

Sound Butchers
Lovely clean fresh butchers owned and run by a young enthusiastic couple. Ideally located at Rudda Park ,next to an excellent fish mongers. Its great to have two shops specialising in Fish and meats next door to one another.

TJ's Thai Restaurant Shetland
Beautiful new Thai restaurant in Lerwick. Great food and service. Just what is needed in Lerwick

Frankie's Fish & Chips
This has to be the the best fish and chips in the Shetland Islands. Has won many awards and you can eat in or takeaway. A bit of a drive from Lerwick, but well worth the effort.

Generous servings and a great variety of dishes on the menu. Generous helpings so perfect if you have a big apatite.

LHD Custom Clothing
We were last here in 2021 and bought quite a lot outdoor clothing. Three years down the line and I have to say we are still wearing them. there's probably another three years left in term. It goes to show, buy quality and it works out cheaper in the long run.

Fjara Cafe Bar
This cafe bar stands out from the rest as it is very modern and seems to have been built for the stunning views. But its definitely not all about the views here, the food served up is pretty special too. Privately run and owned the service quick and friendly.

Magno Cafe Restaurant
Nice fish and scampi, very generous portions and unbeatable prices. Well worth trying

LHD Marine Supplies
One of two big suppliers of marine goods i'm aware of in the Shetland Islands. The Shop is not just specialized to marine ware and has all sorts of goodies in there clothing, boots, PPE gear etc. They also have commercial units that specialize in commercial vessel supplies. including the wire Store, Ropes and nets and they also provide fuel. Its a really large company and pretty much covers all aspects of the marine industry.

Fjara Cafe Bar
Breakfast, lunch and dinner, all great with stunning views over the water. nice polite staff and the coffee is delightful. One of Lerwicks finest eateries.

Ghurka Kitchen
A really nice Nepalese restaurant in Lerwick close to the centre. Really friendly staff and the food is fantastic. It was our first time in a Nepalese restaurant, so we weren't sure what to expect. The waitress talked us through some of the menu and helped us make the right choice. Its one we will eat in again next time in Lerwick.

Bolts Car Hire
We live in Essex and are planning our first trip to Shetland this summer for our holidays. We are not sure weather to drive up or is it possible and cost effective to fly and then hire a car from you?

Home Furnishing
A really nice shop to go in and have a brows around. As the name suggests its full of home furnishing and products. we bought some kitchen equipment from here including a set of pans. The quality and the price were excellent. Its quite a large shop, so give yourself some time to have a good look around. love the photos by the way!

Yes it does appear that Blydoit Fish is up for sale. The previous owners have done a fantastic job over the last 20 years or so and are looking for someone to carry on the great work. Shetland certainly needs this service and the Harbourguides Crew wish them all the look in finding new owners.

LHD Marine Supplies
A reasonably well stocked chandlers that has a really nice selection of marine clothing and footwear. Friendly staff that will try their best to help and advise. we only went in for some gloves and came out with all sorts of stuff. well worth having a look round.

Fjara Cafe Bar
Best breakfast and coffee in Shetland. Nice friendly staff, beautiful views and a varied menu including some good fish dishes. Toilets are spotlessly clean. It can get very busy, so booking would be advisable.

Ghurka Kitchen
We came in for the Sunday Buffet menu, and it was fantastic and great value for money. We will be coming here more often in the future.

Yes the Motor-homes are suitable for most of the roads in Shetland. As regards to going across to other islands I would suggest giving Bolts a call and they will advise you. They have very helpful staff and will help in any way they can. Enjoy your trip to Shetland.

Plenty of good quality marine clothing and general chandlery. You need good quality clothing when youare in these islands and if you forgot to bring any with you, call in here and you will get whatever you need. Very well stocked.

Blydoit Fish Shop
We shopped here a lot as we were staying in self catering accommodation. The fish is so fresh and the choice is vast. If you are a fish eater abd appreciate good quality fresh fish look no further than Blydoit Fish Shop

Magno Lerwick
We came in here mainly because we saw it on the guide and thought we would give it a try. We were very impressed, Ben has a big appetite and really appreciated the generous servings. I dont eat as much, but I did clear my plate on the two occasions we ate here. Well worth a visit and very in-expensive.

Bolts Car Hire Lerwick
Me and my partner hired a car from Bolts and were treated very well. We have had a bad experience with another car hire company when on holiday in Spain and have been wary of hiring since. Bolts Car hire have put our minds at rest. So much so that we are considering hiring a motor home off them next year.

Fjara Cafe Bar Lerwick Shetland
The name cafe/bar is a little misleading as Fjara is much more than a cafe. The location is stunning overlooking the sea and the food served here is of restaurant standard. A good restaurant standard. well worth popping in when you are in Shetland.

We bought lots of great gifts here for the kids and family. Lots of really good ideas for presents for all the younger family members.

Another vital service in Lerwick. Quite a bit more than just a Post Office. It offers all the usual services a Post Office does, plus has some very nice gifts. We popped in a few times.

We very nearly didnt come here as the reviews on Tripadviser were not the best. However we saw it on Harbourguides and thought we would give it a go. We were pleasantlly surprised. We all ate different dishes and althought he helpings are plentiful, every plate was empty at the end.
We are happy to give this restaurant a positive review

We only had a takeaway from here awhich we ate on the boat. We didb order too much, so we heated it up again the next day and ate it on the boat. Both times the food was perfect. We will over order on our next trip and keep some for the following day. Lovely to sit on the boat with a glass of wine feet up eating top quality Indian food.

Great cafe, restaurant with outstanding sea views. Well run by friendly staff, the food really is delicious. Sunny or rainy, it doesnt really matter here. Plenty of shelter whatever the conditions.
