was established in Galmpton in Devon in 1990 and since that time has built up an enviable reputation as a major yacht and motorboat repairer and leading yacht painter.

Over the last decade, the business has grown considerably, with new techniques constantly being developed to cope with modern coating systems.

The new materials - higher gloss topsides paints and underwater epoxy coatings with their extended lifespans mean extremely high standards of quality and increased vigilance are needed from our specialist workforce.

Oli’s passion for boats and boating started at a young age, from family canal boat holidays to national dinghy racing with the navy cadets. Before studying at University, he spent a year sailing as delivery crew. Extensively cruising the South Coast of the UK, Eastern Atlantic coastlines, and Trans-Atlantic to the Caribbean, Oli covered some 7,000 nautical miles. He is still keen yacht racing crew, racing in the Solent and around the South Coast.
Oli studied Yacht Manufacture and Surveying (BSc Hons) at Southampton Solent University. He focussed his studies on hull design and sea-keeping through systematic tank testing and formulaic evaluation of custom built hull forms. Post University, Oli took up a position at a renowned all-service boatyard near Exeter, delivering a wide range of repair, service and maintenance work on a variety of yachts and motorboats. The final three years here were as yard manager, overseeing the repairs department and storage facility.
Oli is also an active member of the International Institute of Marine Surveyors, regularly attending training days, meetings and seminars.

Dolphin Boatyard is found at the head of Galmpton Creek, three miles upriver from Dartmouth.
The yard provides storage and workspace for leisure and commercial vessels displacing up to 65 tonnes and drawing up to 2.5m. Much of the boat storage area is in former quarries where the quarry walls provide shelter from winter storms. The 30 acre waterside site, which is heavily wooded, provides tranquillity just a few yards away from the hubbub of a busy working boatyard.
Ships have been built on Galmpton Creek since Tudor times. From 1824 when the Gibbs family were building fishing boats there has been a continuous history of boat and shipbuilding on the site. Trawlers and smacks were built for the fleets of Brixham, Ramsgate and Lowestoft. During wartime the yard was fully employed building light naval craft.
