Market Gate Shopping Centre is situated in the heart of Lancaster’s historic city centre, serving a local catchment of around 140,000. The Centre’s prime location within the city’s retail offer provides a valuable link within the pedestrianised shopping area.
The Centre is situated between Marketgate and Penny Street and opened in September 1995. It provides 24-hour pedestrian access through covered walkways, offering a vibrant atmosphere in and around the 30+ shops and Market Hall. Key stores such as HMV, New Look, WH Smith, Waterstones and M&S trade alongside local independents including Expressions, Touch of Serenity and the Yummy Cup Cake Company. You can take a break and relax over a coffee in Caffe Nero, or have your hair cut and styled in Toni & Guy, Supercuts or Rachael Anne.
A 120-space roof top car park offers customer-friendly parking with the flexibility to pay before you leave, using the Pay on Foot Chip Coin system. No worries about rushing back to your vehicle to check if you have over-stayed! Wider spaces are also available on the top level for disabled drivers, with lift access to the shops below.
A recent decision to refurbish the public toilet facilities has been welcomed by customers, particularly the disabled toilet on the ground floor and the parent room on the first floor, where private breast-feeding facilities, a baby changing area and a unisex toilet are provided. The baby change facilities are located on the first floor along with the mens and ladies toilets, between the car park and the shops, and are accessible via the adjacent public lift and stairs.
