The Elephant Boatyard is a family run business in Old Bursledon, nestled in the sheltered waters on the western side the River Hamble. The boatyard is situated on the site where HMS Elephant was built in 1786, a warship chosen by Nelson as his flagship during the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801. It has been a working boatyard ever since, and has been owned and run by the Richardson family since 1952, together with a loyal staff including shipwrights, riggers and engineers.
