US TEEN SETS NEW ROUND THE WORLD RECORD
American Zac Sunderland has been successful in his bid to become the youngest person to sail around the world single handed. It took the 17 year old 13 months to complete the 28,000 mile voyage. He was greeted by hundreds of cheering fans as he sailed his yacht, the Intrepid into Marina Del Rey, CA and shouted to them “It’s awesome to be back.”
During his adventure he suffered sleep deprivation when his yacht was damaged and had a close encounter with suspected pirates who circled him for a while before being scared off.
Zacz glory may well only be short lived as UK contender for the title Mike Perham is due to return home in around three weeks but the US teen remains philosophical, 'Someone's going to beat it some day… I'm hoping to set off on my next adventure soon - Mount Everest or to the Arctic Circle,'
