An abandoned yacht, the 25ft “Troll” which sailed itself across the Atlantic Ocean travelling 2,700 miles in 10 months after having been abandoned off the coast of Bermuda was sunk by the Irish frigate L.É. Eithne off the west coast of Ireland. The owner, Thomas Mallanut, from Germany, abandoned the yacht and left it to its fate after his travelling companion wife became ill. The yacht was sunk as it represented a hazard to other vessels.

He had hoped to be reunited with Troll after he had been informed that it had sailed itself accross the atlantic to the Uk, however his hopes were dashed after the Irish Navy intervened.

Always sad to see or hear about a perfectly good vessel going down to Davey Jones Locker.
