The controversial Russian graffiti artists, Voina (‘War’) have been nominated for a top award after painting a huge phallus on a lifting bridge opposite the HQ of spy chiefs FSB in St. Petersburg. The incident led to two of the group being jailed for public order offences and have now been held for three months.

Cult British graffiti artist Banksy, who is a big fan of their work, put up over £100,000 in bail money but the authorities rejected his cash. The group have been nominated for a national award by Russia’s State Centre for Contemporary Art but say they will only accept the gong when Voina members Oleg Vorotnikov and Leonid Kikolayev are released.
