On Saturday 28th February a five-part TV series about the 2008/2009 Vendee Globe begins. The Channel 4 series will include behind the scenes interviews, as well as footage made by the skippers themselves on board their yachts during the race. There will also be historic information and detailed CGI footage of the roots taken by the boats.

With seven British skippers in the event it should make every interesting and exciting viewing for UK audiences whether they’re into sailing or not. Especially so considering the incredible achievements by Dee Caffari and Sam Davies. This year’s race was high on action and drama. There were some very interesting individuals amongst the Brits not least of all third time Vendee veteran Mike Golding and Steve White who re-mortgaged his house to enter and still had to wait until the eleventh hour to get the OK to race.

With only 11 of the original 30 skippers actually completing the race it should be gripping stuff. If nothing else a valuable insight into why someone would want to attempt something that most people would regard as an act of life threatening madness.
The first programme will be shown on Saturday at 07:30 then weekly at 07:30 on Sunday mornings. Get that Sky Plus kicked into action!
