VENDEE GLOBE NEWS (Goldings Fastest)

After recording an average overnight speed more than 3knots faster than current Vendée Globe leader Loick Peyron in Gitana Eighty, Mike Golding’s Ecover is officially the fastest boat in the race’s top ten.
Despite retaining sixth position the Southampton skipper is apprehensive. “I might seem relaxed on the outside but to be honest I’m still stressed about the boat,” he said. “She gives me all sorts of concerns but my biggest concern is that I’m still waiting for something to break.”
There may well be helpful head winds at the moment but trouble lies just over the horizon. The leaders will be in the centre of a high pressure system 300 miles away within twenty four hours. If they successfully negotiate that, they then have another to deal with straight afterwards that is currently moving towards St. Helena
With two high pressure systems less than a day ahead Golding remains open minded about their predicament. “I could easily see the race re-starting in about three days…This could mix things up a little.”
