VENDEE UPDATE – GUILLEMOT SLOWS, DAVIES BACK IN THIRD
Marc Guillemot has lost his keel and been forced to give up his battle with Sam Davies for third place in the Vendee Globe. The skipper is said to now be content to settle for a slow finish in lighter winds.
Last night Davies had this to say about her closest rival. ' I am, incredibly glad of the forecast for Marco's sake, as the light winds will hopefully enable Safran to get to the finish safely. After all Marco has done, he deserves to get there and I am keeping everything crossed for a safe passage for him and Safran.'
With 460miles to go the Roxy skipper has been sailing at speeds ranging between 12 to 15knots. Her plan to be back at Les Sables d’Olonne for Valentines Day now looks very unlikely as she heads towards a bank of high pressure about to settle over the Bay of Biscay. However we’re sure that winning third place position will prove more than enough to make up for any romantic disappointment.
