TITANIC II BILLIONAIRE IN SUPERYACHT NEAR MISS.

The man behind the Titanic II project has experienced a close shave when his super yacht came close to colliding with rocks off the Queensland Gold Coast.

Clive Palmer, the man backing the Titanic II replica was entertaining business associates, when his when his luxury yacht ‘Maximus’ lost power and began to drift towards a rocky outcrop. The guests donned life jackets and flares were set off.

The vessel was eventually towed by the local search and rescue team to a safe berth at Mariners Cove.

Search and rescue controller, Steve Pomas said, 'It can be quite dangerous whenever you are dealing with a boat of that size and it's challenging... I don't think the boat would have sunk if it did hit the rocks. But I think it shows no matter how wealthy, and what size boat you've got, you can get into trouble.'
