ImageBOX OFFICE RECORDS AND OSCAR NOMINATIONS FOR THE BRITS
With British cinema’s scoring record box office takings in 2008 it would seem that the UK has gone movie mad. The UK Film council reported that cinema goers in the UK and Ireland spent a massive £949.5mil last year, a 5% increase on 2007 and the highest total since 1989. Surely then all eyes will be on the 81st Academy Awards Ceremony at the Kodak theatre in Hollywood on February 22nd. Not only is Kate Winslet up for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in The Reader but the movies director is going head to head with fellow brit Danny Boyle who directed Slumdog Millionaire for best Director. What is even more exciting is that both movies have been nominated for Best Picture. With Slumdog Millionaire already scooping three Golden Globes it looks like being our best hope. However Kate Winslet also grabbed one of two gongs at the same award ceremony for her role in The Reader so it could well prove a close run race. In the meantime check out the full list of this years oscar Nominees.
