The new Hugo Boss sail boat that Alex Thomson hopes to win the Vendee Globe 2016 in has been unveiled. Alex and his team have been working for the last two years on the new yacht that is apparently 5% lighter than its predecessor.
Thomson 41 from Gosport will be testing the boat out in the double-handed Transat Jacques Vabre race which starts in Le Havre and ends in South America, he will be accompanied by his co-skipper Guillermo Altadill. During this race he hopes to find out if thar the boat will be quick and reliable enough to have a chance of winning the vendee Globe, a feat no British person has ever achieved.
The Vendee Globe known as the “Everest of Sailing” is a single handed unassisted round the world race with no stops. It takes about three months to complete. Thomson finished third in 2013, the Welsh born sailor is now the third Britain to finish on the podium. Dame Ellen Macarthur finished second in2000/ 01, and Mike Golding finished third in 2014/ 15.
Good luck Alex from all the Harbourguides crew, we will be following your progress closely.
