60 percent of all seabirds have ingested plastic
Forecasts suggest that by 2050 99 percent of all seabirds including albatrosses, shearwaters and penguins will have ingested plastic. This compares to a figure of less than 5 percent according to surveys taken in 1960. Birds are attracted to brightly coloured plastic bags and bottle tops discharged into the sea from rivers and sewers.
