The famous maritime city of Amsterdam has just witnessed the arrival of hundreds of the world’s most spectacular tall ships, naval vessels and other boats navigate their way through the North Sea Canal and then moor up around the river IJ.

The event originated in 1975 to celebrate the city’s 700 Jubilee, and was such a success that it has carried on. The last gathering was 5 years ago, and everyone has been looking forward to this year’s flotilla where some of the most beautiful and historic vessels in the world come to show off their unique elegance and charm.

The event named “Sail Amsterdam” is without doubt the place to go to witness the largest collection of historic ships and replicas in the world, approximately 600 ships are attending.

Long may it continue.
