SUNSEEKER TO BE BOUGHT BY CHINA

British boat builder Sunseeker are to be bought by Chinese company Dalian Wanda Group for £320 million giving them a majority stake of 91.81%. The company say it will help them tap into the growing boating industry in China and south-east Asia. According to Dalian Wanda Group chairman Wang Jianlin the company will stay British based.

He told the press, 'There is no question about it, we are going to keep the jobs in Poole, we will not lay anyone off and we will add capital to Sunseeker. It is our firm belief that the quality of Sunseeker yachts will not be affected at all.'

Sunseeker Managing Director, Stewart McIntyre said, “Sunseeker now plans to dramatically increase production from 180 yachts a year to 370 to meet Chinese demand.”

Wang Jianlin has owned Sunseeker Predator 108 since 2011 and it has been rumoured since that a Chinese investment company had been in talks with the British boatbuilder.

If the new deal goes through it won’t be until mid-August.
