SECOND BLOW FOR CUBA TO FLORIDA SWIMMER

US endurance athlete Diana Nyad has suffered a second blow in her ongoing attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida after being stung by a Portuguese Man-Of-War. The 62year old was 49 miles into her marathon when the jellyfish struck and was told that another sting could prove life threatening.

Her previous attempt at the record breaking challenge, to become the first person to swim the 103 miles through shark infested waters without a shark cage, was thwarted when she suffered a severe asthma attack.

Ms Nyad said, 'The medical team said I should not go another two nights in the water and risk additional likely Man-of-War stings which could have a long-term cumulative effect on my body,.. But for each of us, isn't life about determining your own finish line? This journey has always been about reaching your own other shore no matter what it is, and that dream continues.'
