ROBOT COMPLETES MARS MARATHON
Thursday March 26th, 2015
“Opportunity Mars” NASA’s solar powered robot vehicle, has now covered over 26 miles on the planet, making it the first man-made vehicle to complete a marathon on another planet. The time set by the robot is nothing to write home about though, it has took just over 11 years to complete.
'Opportunity' landed on “Eagle Crater” Mars back in January 2014, and John Callas, the project manager at NASA’s JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) said:
'This is the first time any human enterprise has exceeded the distance of a marathon on the surface of another world,'
During its 11 year mission, the robot has discovered conditions that are wet and mild enough to sustain life.
Maybe David Bowie was right after all, Could there have been “Life on Mars”?
