ImageWHEN EMPIRES CRUMBLE – A SAD SIGN OF THE TIMES.

It is a very sad sign of the times when bona fide institutions collapse. And the latest victim of the world bank/governmental cock-up is no exception. To Harbour guides and the sailing fraternity it is a veritable crime. Yachting media and information leaders Reeds has recently announced:

‘Reeds Nautical Online Almanac Ltd regret that owing to the worsening economic conditions we are unable to continue trading.

We sincerely apologise to all those who have purchased the product over the past few months as we will be unable to continue to deliver the online edition of the Almanac.’

Reed’s is not simply an institution, it is a invaluable resource and has served hundred’s of thousands of mariners since it first appeared in print in 1932. To many Reeds has become indispensable and although the online almanac service is only a small part of the Reeds empire it will come as a blow to many sailors who have come to rely on the service. It is not for nothing the Reeds brand has been called a ‘bible’.

Harbour Guides send their sincerest regrets on the closure of the almanac and hope that Reeds weather the inevitably stormy near future. In the meantime we are happy for anyone requiring a similar resource to access our own charts and weather reports etc. The service is subscription free and we welcome any suggestions as to how it can be improved
