Monday December 14th, 2009
Quadriplegic Geoff has set sail in his catamaran from Lanzarote in his bid to become the first disabled man to sail the Atlantic single handed. The 43 year olds boat, Impossible Dream was designed especially to be sailed by people with disabilities by paraplegic Mike Browne who kindly donated her for the adventure.
Geoff who was working as a first mate aged 16 and had sailed the Atlantic three times by the age of 18 broke his neck when he dived into shallow water- has remained yachting enthusiast despite his resulting disability. When asked about the journey ahead he said, 'If we have problems, we will overcome them. I'll miss my family terribly, but achieving this will be the best present ever.'
