PROBABLY THE BEST FRIDGE IN THE WORLD
Saturday January 15th, 2011
Two young Americans have invented the ultimate blokes toy – an iPhone-controlled fridge that shoots beer across the room to the drinker. ‘Beer Bot’ inventors Ryan Rusnak and Graham Pedro created the device when they decided it was too much work walking to the fridge every time they wanted a cold beer.
After experimenting with a basic vending machine prototype they decided it wasn’t enough and introduced a compressed air cannon to the invention.
Mr Rusnak of Tyson’r Corner, Virginia said, 'It was kind of famous last words: 'how much pressure should we use?' The first attempt smashed the can into the roof and blew it into a thousand pieces.'
The device is activated by a web app (developed by Ryan’s pal Josh Lilly) via a dedicated web server. You simply choose which make of beer you fancy then use the webcam in the front of the fridge to aim the cannon and boom! It sends an ice cold can of beer flying across the room towards you. And, as if that isn’t enough, every time it fires a beer the fridge sends an e-mail its creator so he can keep an eye on stocks.
When asked how much time and effort went into the ‘Beer Bot’ Mr Rusnak said, 'All the tinkering and everything took about three months to get it absolutely right.”
And does he consider it a success?
'After working an eight-hour day, coming in and firing a can to yourself is just the best thing. Even now I've fired it hundreds of times and it's still cool.'
Sounds like a big ‘Yes!” to me.
