POLISH THIEVES IN MASSIVE ROBBERY BUST

Monday February 23rd, 2009
ImageWhen a group of Polish thieves set out to redefine the term ‘armed robbery’ they did it big style. This group of criminal masterminds managed to haul away four WWII and post-Soviet tanks from a military range. Their intention? To weigh them is for scrap of course. Brilliant!!!

The gang somehow managed to hire a haulage company to load the tanks by crane onto covered trucks and drive them to a scrap metal yard. Imagine the sense of dumfounded surprise when the scrap yard owner asked for vehicle documentation papers. The game was up. The heavy metal heist was suddenly rumbled.
Lublin Police spokesman Jacek Deptus said 'The four tanks -- each weighing more than 20 tons -- were to be sold for about 60,000 zlotys (less than £12,000)… They didn't realise the depot would refuse to take the tanks because they were undocumented'
Apparently the incident was only the first of a planned ongoing operation to steal derelict military items from all over the area.
The Harbour Guides Crew do not condone criminal behaviour in any form but you really can’t help but want to give this bunch of big thinkers a double thumbs up for effort and entertainment value.
