Wednesday April 14th, 2010
According to Military press reports US battleship, USS Ashland was attacked by pirates in the Gulf of Aden on 10th April. Fire was returned and the pirate skiff caught fire leading to an abandon ship and the subsequent arrest of six suspected pirates. This makes a total of 21 such arrests in the past 10 days by the US naval group currently patrolling the area.
Commanding officer, Capt John Bruening said: 'This is why we are here.... It is so much more than just putting a stop to the illegal activities of only one pirate skiff. It is about fostering an environment that will give every nation the freedom to navigate the seas without fear of attack.'
The U.S. Navy is now looking into the numerous options regarding arrested pirates' legal dispositions.
