Newcastle University students to design lifeboat
Students from Newcastle University’s School of Marine Science and Technology are to participate in a four-year development program involving lab and sea trials to create a new generation of lifeboats for the RNLI. It is hoped to reduce the effect of slamming when a vessel travels at high speed crashing through the waves. The present Severn class lifeboats cost over £2million each and measure in at 17metres (55’9”).
