TARANTINO MOVIE IS US BOX OFFICE NUMBER ONE
Maverick movie director, Quentin Tarantino has set himself a new benchmark with his latest release, WWII epic Inglorious Basterds. The movie grabbed the number one spot in the US at the weekend taking $37.6mil and making it the best opening weekend of his career.
The movie took Tarantino ten years to write and follows the unsavoury exploits of a vengeance seeking Jewish-American hit squad sent behind enemy lines to wreak havoc on the Nazis. Headed up by Brad Pitt’ Lt. Aldo Raine the latter day scalp hunters terrorize the German army and change history completely. The film made it’s mark earlier this year at Cannes when Austrian actor Christophe Waltz to the ‘best actor’ award for his riveting performance as ruthless SS ‘Jew Hunter’ Col. Hans Landa, who surely deserves a place as one of the greatest screen villains ever.
As a Tarantino fan myself I have to say Inglorious Batserds is something to behold. His best work since Pulp Fiction. It will confound everyone’s expectations. It is packed with incredibly tense and often hilarious set pieces. It is very slow burning. It contains some truly awesome performances and yes it delivers that blackly comic and nasty Tarantino violence in spades when necessary.
