Davey du Plessis, an adventurer and environmentalist age 27, and his mother, Robin Wolff, 50,  are planning to cross the Atlantic from South Africa to Rio de Janeiro in a pedal powered boat

What has been called The Atlantic Project will take between three and five months and cover 4,000 miles hoping to raise attention to environmental issues. The purpose built and customised vessel Vaquita was built in South Africa by an uncle of du Plessis to a design by an American architect, Dudley Vix. It is hoped to draw attention to the ongoing mass extinction of species due to human activity with a projected extinction rate of between 30 and 50 percent forecast by the year 2050.
