The world’s youngest circumnavigator is to start work as an ambassador for the Princes Trust. Mike Perham from Potter’s Bar who returned home at the end of August after 9 months sailing around the world single handed celebrated his new post at a Sport United reception at Lords Cricket Ground.
Next up he will join Australian adventurer Don McIntyre and two others as they restage the remarkable 4000 mile voyage of Captain Bligh from Tonga to Timor 221 years ago. The Bounty Boat Expedition is designed to encourage young people to achieve extraordinary things.
'Nothing is impossible if you really really set your heart on doing something special and prepare for it' said the 17 year old student. 'If I can motivate just one person at each talk to go out and 'live their dream' I feel I will have achieved something. If I can inspire two or three to turn their dreams into reality, then I will have achieved something special.'
A documentary about Mike’s around the world voyage will feature on Channel 4’s documentary ‘Cutting Edge’ in November.
