MEGA HAUL FOUND IN WW2 WRECK

Odyssey Marine Exploration have certainly landed on their financial feet after discovering a £150million haul of silver aboard the wreck of a Word War II steamer. The company was contracted by the government to explore the British Cargo ship, SS Gairsoppa, in 2010.

The vessel went missing in February 1941 after being torpedoed by a German U-Boat in the north Atlantic. It was rediscovered about 300 miles south west of Ireland at a depth of 4700 metres with an estimated 240 tonnes of silver on board. Due to the risk, expense and responsibility undertaken by Odyssey they will retain 80% of the cargo on board.
