Friday April 15th, 2011
MAN CAUGHT DRIVING BUMPER CARS ON BUSY ROAD

Is it me or is China getting as mad as the West? This week a man has been stopped by police whilst driving not one but two dodgem cars along a busy road in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province.

Officer Liu Yulin said he thought he was 'seeing things' when he spotted the man on CCTV. 'I was sweating... I saw the man sat in between the two cars with one feet on the accelerator of each.'

When the bumper car owner, Zhang was pulled over by traffic police he said he owned them and business had become slack at the nearby amusement park where he rented space. He had decided to take the cars to a busy pedestrian area downtown in the hope of increasing trade. He told the police that his assistant had been called away after receiving and urgent call.

'I decided to try to drive them both because I didn't want to leave one blocking the road where it might be stolen.”

Officer Xiao Hu told Zhang that the dodgems were not roadworthy vehicle but was unsure what the correct punishment should be under Chinese law and let him off with a verbal caution.
