MAN BITES SNAKE
Friday April 17th, 2009

How lucky must farm manager Ben Nyaumbe feel? Having been dragged up a tree by a python at Sabaki Farm in Malindi District in Kenya's Coast province he managed to survive an hour-long struggle before escaping with only minor injuries.
The horrifying events began when Mr Nyaumbe stepped on what he described as a ‘spongy thing’ on the ground… “suddenly, my leg was entangled with the body of a huge python… I had to bite it as I struggled, one hand incapacitated. The snake then got it easy and quickly dragged me on.”
Fortunately it would appear the snake had not worked up a full appetite. 'Systematically, it pulled me up a tree and surprisingly enough, it rested when it reached there. This gave me the opportunity to remove my phone from my pocket. I had not been able to do so all the time I struggled.'
After an hour in the clutches of the python Mr Nyaumbe was freed by police suffering only bruising and cut lips. The snake escaped and is still believed to be at large in the area.
