NEW CONTENDER IN YOUNGEST ROUND THE WORLD CHALLENGE

It looks like even if Brit teen, Mike Perham is successful in his bid to win the title of ‘Youngest Solo Circumnavigator’ his glory may well be relatively short lived. 15 year-old Jessica Martin from Mooloolaba on the Gold Coast of Australia plans to set sail aboard her Sparkman and Stephens 34 in her own quest for the title shortly after her 16th birthday in May.

That will mean there will actually be three contenders chasing the title at sea simultaneously, including American 17 year-old Zac Sunderland who is currently giving Mike Perham a run for his money. However, if Jessica succeeds she will take over a year of the record for, which is currently held by fellow Ausie Jesse Martin who turned 18 whilst circumnavigating in 1999.
