ICONIC LIGHTHOUSE TO LOSE ITS STRIPES

In a bid to save money one of Britons most iconic seafront landmarks is to lose its distinctive red and white stripes. The decision to allow Beachy Head lighthouse to lose its iconic character was made as it is no longer considered and important daytime navigation mark.

Trinity House has stated that there is any no longer justification for the 45,000 cost of repainting the lighthouse every 10 years. However the light will continue to be operational to assist navigation after dark.

A campaign has been started to raise funds to keep the stripes on this iconic Sussex landmark.
