The original HMS Pickle started life as a civilian vessel Sting and became a topsail schooner of the Royal Navy used as a tender on the Jamaica Station. Present at the Battle of Trafalgar, HMS Pickle was the first vessel to bring news of Nelson’s victory to Great Britain arriving at Falmouth on 4th November 1805. She was subsequently wrecked on the Spanish shore in 1808.
The replica of HMS Pickle was purchased in Gibraltar in 2014 and sailed back to the UK by the new owner, Mr Mal Nicholson. She is to be escorted to her new home in Hull by patrol vessel HMS Explorer.
