GRAND PRIX RACE BOAT BLAZE

Grand Prix race boat Titan XV has caught fire in Antigua Yacht Club Marina, Falmouth Harbour. According to reports a seven year old child on a nearby catamaran spotted smoke coming from the 75ft Reichel/Pugh and heard ‘popping’ noises.

Crews from other yachts boarded Titan and attempted to extinguish the fire. It took fire fighters two hours to tackle the blaze, believed to be caused by an electrical fault in the battery bank. Although the titan is still afloat initial reports have stated that the damage is so extensive that the boat will have to be written off.

She was leading her Class 1 in Antigua Sailing Week and had been chartered by Peter Cunningham as Titan Powerplay.
