FIRE AT WINDERMERE MARINA

Wednesday November 16th, 2011
FIRE AT WINDERMERE AQUATICS
A significant fire has just been extinguished by the Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service in a Bowness on Windermere boatyard tonight.
The premises belong to Windermere Aquatics on Glebe road. The fire was so severe that the Fire Service used six pumping services, two land Rovers an aerial ladder platform and a major rescue vehicle. They have also requested the assistance of a boat.
The asbestos roof on the building has gone and the premises were storing many boats, some reports estimate as many as 90 although at this time this is just an estimate and cannot be confirmed.
Early reports suggest that many boats have been saved due to the fantastic work of the fire crews.
The fire crew are also taking care of the water runoff in order to protect the lake.
There haven’t been any reports of any injuries.
The Harbourguides Crew have a boat moored at this marina and will be able to report more on the matter once we visit at the weekend.
In the meantime let’s hope the reports that no one has been injured are accurate.

I know this area very well the fire Brigade must have done a fantastic job to stop this from spreading as all the boats are so close to each other in that marina. The Major concern now must be the asbestos particles have to be all over the boats in the marina. The water i guess must now be contaminated frighting for the wildlife at least no one has been injured i would not like the bill for sorting that one out.
