NEW WORLD’S FASTEST GOAL RECORD SET BY AMATEUR
The record for the world’s fastest goal has been smashed by an amateur when he scored from kick-off. Cowes’ Reserves striker, Marc Burrows was playing in the Sydenham’s Wessex League against Eastleigh when he took the magic kick, which was aided by a strong gust of wind and sailed past the opponent’s keeper. The goal was timed by the referee at two seconds beating the world record by 0.8secs. The 25year-old then went on to score a hat-trick ensuring Cowes won 5-3.
Referee John Sorrel said, 'The goal surprised everyone. I thought I'd have a go because the wind was so strong. 'I was so stumped to see it sail over their keeper I didn't really celebrate. I just burst out laughing. I've tried it before but the ball normally goes for a throw in and I feel like a right prat... 'It was a great strike, better than Beckham's when he scored from halfway against Wimbledon. I timed it at two seconds. I don't think you could score faster.'
Guinness World Records are now checking the Marc’s claim.
