MILLIONS MOURN THE DEATH OF ‘LAST HOLLYWOOD SUPERSTAR’

The world has lost one of the greatest Hollywood icons of the 20th Century. Elizabeth Taylor, possibly show business’s most enduring stars, passed away yesterday (23rd March 2011) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles aged 79.

Taylor had suffered ill health throughout her career but had never let it slow her down. Her later years were dedicated to the fight against AIDs a cause for which she battle tirelessly following the death of her close friend Rock Hudson.

Possibly the world’s greatest screen actress, she was nominated five times for Oscars and won two. The first was for Butterfield 8 and the second for her matchless performance in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolfe alongside her then husband Richard Burton.

Her off screen persona was arguably as famous as her numerous big screen roles. Her lavish lifestyle, seven husbands and notoriously fiery relationship with Burton, to whom she was married twice, is the definitive stuff of Hollywood Legend. Her close friendship with Michael Jackson introduced her to a new generation of fans and ensured that her legacy will live on.

Much admired, much loved and now sadly missed. RIP Liz.
