DUNGAREES
Dungarees may well be the standard work clothes for many a modern day sailor, and have had a brief and somewhat dubious moment in the spot light as a fashion item during the eighties thanks to a certain Kevin Rowland, but the name is not at all modern. The term actually dates back to the early 18th Century when and Indian cotton with the Hindi name ‘dungri’ was used in the manufacture of cheap work clothes worn by sailors.
