DRINK DRIVER TRIES TO PARK CAR IN RIVER

OK it’s not officially ‘sailing news’ as such but it sort of fits the bill.

A Swiss man has driven his car down a slipway into the River Ruess in Sins, Switzerland whilst driving absolutely clattered in thick fog. According to reports Paul Thaler thought he was driving into an underground car park. When he hit the water he abandoned the car and walked home.

The following morning the, still drunk, 42 –year-old, returned to the scene of the crime to pick up the vehicle. He was greeted by local police who were already towing it away. He was breathalysed and arrested on the spot.

A police spokesman told the press, 'He was confused because of the fog but mostly because of the drink... He lost his license and will be fined and will have to pay all the costs of the recovery of his car.'

Got to admire his honesty though.
