LAWMOWER LANDSPEED RECORD SMASHED BY BRIT
The lawnmower land speed record was broken twice this weekend by a British machine. On Saturday rider Don Wales set a new record of 86.069mph on Pendine Sands, Carmarthenshire only to beat that on Sunday when he reached 87.833mph. The previous record had stood since 2006 when a US mower reached 80.792mph.
Unfortunately the team ran out of time and didn’t reach there dream speed of 100mph but they are all delighted with the result nonetheless.
The record was set in accordance with Guinness Book of Records rules which state that any of the motorised grass cutters taking part must also be built primarily from lawnmower parts and must still be able to cut grass. The participants must drive over a measured mile in one direction and return within one hour.
Mr Wale’s attempt was named Project Running Blade and his machine was built with parts from three different Countax mowers.
