Carabiners out

Advice has been given that boat owners should secure their vessels to mooring buoys with proper strops rather than the climbing-aid style carbiners which now seem to have become popular. In recent times, two yachts have come adrift from their moorings in Fowey, Cornwall due to being secured with a carbiner instead of a proper mooring strop. Deputy harbour master for Fowey reports that usually at least six yachts per year go adrift as a result of using carbiners.
