DEAD SARDINES IN MARINA

1 MILLION DEAD SARDINES BRING MARINA TO STAND STILL

A Californian marina has been hit by what scientists have described as ‘very rare naturally occurring event’ of almost biblical proportions. An estimated one million dead sardines have carpeted the water around King Harbour Marina, just south-west of LA, making it impossible for many boats to leave.

It is believed that the fish came to the 1400 berth marina to seek shelter from strong winds but the numbers were so high that they used up all the oxygen in the water around the bay. The carcasses are to be removed to a landfill site where they will be made into fertiliser.
