DEAD IN THE WATER

Monday July 6th, 2009
ImagePretty obvious that this term has nautical origins. The phrase used to describe a project that is going nowhere or has come to a standstill is derived from the phrase used by mariners to describe being becalmed. When there was no wind to fill the sails the ship was said (and still is today) to be ‘dead in the water’.
