The Carolina Queen III, a 76ft fishing trawler from Virginia, is beached in Far Rockaway, on Long Island’s southern shore, New York. A Coast Guard rescue team set out on a rescue attempt but their boat turned over in the severe conditions and the rescue team swam to shore in heavy surf. The trawler crew of seven were airlifted to hospital by Coast Guard helicopter.
