Cocaine seized in joint naval operation
HMS Somerset and Border Force cutter Valiant seized cocaine from the ocean-going tug MV Hamal 100 miles east of Scotland in a joint operation with the National Crime Agency (NCA) and Border Force.
The operation was coordinated with the French Customs Service DNFRED, the UK’s National Maritime Information Centre, and the Lisbon based Maritime Analysis and Operational Centre.
The tug was escorted into Aberdeen harbour and nine crew members were detained and later charged with drug trafficking.
