CLINTON WOODS BOXING IN JERSEY

Friday February 13th, 2009
ImageBRIT BOXER WILL QUIT IF HE LOSES
Former IBF light-heavyweight, Clinton Woods has said he will quit boxing if he loses his world title eliminator this weekend. The 36-year-old faces Kosovan Evir Murqui in Jersey in the Channel Islands on Saturday.
Having lost his light heavyweight crown to Antonio Tarver in April last year, Sheffield born Woods is quick to realise that this his last chance at glory 'If I lose this fight I'm not carrying on, I don't want to go down to European or British level.' He said. 'I'll pick my plastering trowel up again.'
But Woods certainly hasn’t given up hope, 'Everyone knows it wasn't me in my last fight… I was stale. But now I'm training with a smile on my face again. Muriqi says he's faster, quicker and more skilled than me - when he fought Tarver he was unlucky not to have been given the verdict, whereas when I fought Tarver I was terrible - so I think that's what he's basing it [his opinion of me as a fighter] on.'
'I feel as though I have achieved everything in boxing, but at the same time there is still something else - to win another world title,' He added. 'I've had Glyn [Rhodes] pushing me, shouting at me in the gym, and I feel rejuvenated. It will tell on the night, we'll see on the night. But I will definitely retire if I lose this fight, I will pack it in. I don't want to go back to European level. So that's my incentive, because I don't want to pack in boxing. I love boxing.'
The fight takes place at Hotel De France in Jersey on Saturday 14th February. The Harbour Guides Crew wish Clinton Woods all the very best.
