CLASHES IN HONG KONG

Clashes between police and demonstrators broke out in Hong Kong when police tried to suppress demonstrations by pro-democracy supporters. Roads were closed and protestors sprayed with pepper spray.

A government spokesman said they had a duty to clear the streets so normal people could go to work. Protesters wished to choose their own candidates in elections instead of having them imposed by the national government
